Hamantaschen

Hamantaschen

Hamantaschen, orejas de Haman or Haman’s ears are traditionally made for Purim. My husband loved the ones from the Max’s Deli in Vancouver and when we moved to Québec I started to make them at home. Poppy seeds, prunes or jams can be used to fill the cookies.

  • 1 stick butter, at room temperature
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 ¾ cup flour
  • Raspberry jam

Preheat the oven to 350F; line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In the bowl of an electric mixer cream the butter and sugar, add the egg and mix well, add the flour and mix until just combined. Form the dough into a disk and chill in the fridge for at least half an hour. Roll the dough into ¼ inch thick, cut with a round cookie cutter, place about a tablespoon of the jam in the middle of the round piece of dough and bring three sides together to form a triangle. Chill the cookies in the fridge for 15 minutes and bake until the jam is bubbly and the cookies are golden. Let the cookies cool on a wire rack.
